This month we are delighted to introduce our new CEO, Ty Edwards, who has recently joined our Tatami family. Ty brings a wealth of international retailing experience to our business, having previously held Director roles at brands such as Debenhams & Kookai.

Ty’s mission is to lead us into the next phase of our exciting expansion plans, where we plan to capitalise on our market share as one of the world’s leading combat sports brands, whilst ensuring we protect our position as a leading retailer and athlete sponsor, within the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Our immediate ambitions include relocating our current Offices & Distribution Centres into one central hub. This in turn creates new jobs within South Wales and we have already recruited a new Head of Brand Marketing, plus Head of Buying, who will develop new exciting products and help build our brand presence and customer experience. We have also started improving our website, selling & social channels and we are progressing plans to expand into new territories. Distribution Hubs will be set up in new countries to ensure we can serve our customers more effectively and efficiently, wherever they live across the globe.

Ty says, “I am thrilled to be leading Team Tatami at such an exciting time for our business, industry and sport. The BJJ community will remain at the heart of everything we do, but we are confident that we can expand our reach within the booming combat sports market and make Tatami Fightwear an even bigger success story over the coming years. We are already reviewing our approach to athlete sponsorship which will lead to exciting new opportunities for many more fighters within the world of combat sports and especially BJJ.

We have exciting opportunities to expand our brand reach into new markets which will grow our business rapidly, creating more jobs and opportunities for people across our Tatami community; we will be making some exciting announcements soon regarding these. We are also looking to increase our support of charities such as REORG who we are proud to partner, as we build an even stronger community.”

Regarding the current global economic challenges, Ty comments, “There are many trading challenges to overcome across the world, but to be leading such a successful niche brand, involved in the world of combat sports is very exciting. I have some very talented people around me, with more joining soon and we cannot wait to deliver the plans we have in place.”
